The wellness program is part of Animal Hospital of Irvine's comprehensive approach to preventive care for pets. Because pets age much more rapidly than humans and they are not able to communicate verbally how they feel, an annual physical examination is very important to assess an animal's overall health and to detect early signs of disease. Behavioral changes such as lethargy/exercise intolerance, excessive drinking and/or urination, increased or decreased appetite, weight gain or loss, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, or sneezing can often indicate serious illness. In addition to a thorough examination, further diagnostic testing may be warranted.
Animal Hospital of Irvine offers a discounted wellness package that includes blood work (complete blood count, chemistry panel, and thyroid evaluation), urinalysis, and x-rays of the chest. These tests serve to diagnose conditions such as anemia, infection, organ (e.g. kidney, liver, pancreas) dysfunction, diabetes, hypo- or hyperthyroidism, heart and lung disease, and metastatic cancer. Since these conditions become more common as an animal ages, the wellness package is strongly recommended on an annual basis for all senior pets. |
